IN 2025, it was not uncommon to see inspired bards from Yul shul Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture livestream epic performances individually and collaboratively. In collaborative performances they speak in series, picking up where the previous speaker had left off. The three bards recorded here are from two different counties of Yul shul. "The Great Battle between Hor and Gling" is a well-known part of the Gesar epic. Some bards have discouraged telling it because the deaths of certain heroes may sadden audiences, but others maintain that it is extremely popular with audiences.
In this episode, Gur dkar, the demonic king of Hor, takes Gesar's wife as his own while the king is in retreat. Upon his return from retreat, Gesar wages war upon Hor, defeats the king, and wins back his bride.
